Artistic Statement

I chose to play La Folia for the audition because it is one of my favorite violin pieces. La Folia is composed of a theme and 12 variations. Although it is not a very difficult piece rhythmically, it is more complicated in terms of technique than it first appears to be. I believe this piece should be played with the techniques dictated by the tempo and the player's interpretation of the variations. This piece has a balance of slow and fast variations. In each variation, you can hear the theme repeated in a different way each time.
