Mindy Ratner’s Holiday Album Picks

Classical MPR's hosts were asked to list their top holiday albums. Here is Mindy Ratner's choice:
  • Elijah's Violin
    Elijah’s Violin (Four-Tay 4030)

Violinist Zina Schiff and pianist Cameron Grant have made several CDs together – some, strictly classical, as in their brand-new CD of the Brahms Violin Sonatas on the MSR label, and some with a Jewish theme. Even though the musical selections on “Elijah’s Violin” are not specifically related to Chanukah, they are all by Jewish composers, and many of the pieces are recorded here for the first time. It’s a wonderfully crafted exploration of a repertoire that deserves to be known
