Stop increasing cigarette and alcohol taxes

To raise taxes an tobaco and alcohol again in not only unfair to those of us who smoke, but it gives those who don't smoke a break. [MPR News: Senate passes $2 billion tax increase] Why should we be punished and have to pay for those who don't smoke? I would rather you raise income tax on everyone rather than you pick on us.

If this bill passes it will prove that our Minnesotan politicians care only about themselves once again. And I will not vote for anyone who votes to approve this bill.

Barely a tax bump

Anyone besides me notice that alcohol only went up five cents a drink? [MPR News: House passes $1.5 billion tax increase]

Why not a dollar? Yes, I realize those that make the rules and the taxes really like their favorite watering holes.

Fair taxes

I would love it if for just once the rich guys paid their fair share on the taxes not just a measely 9 or 9.5%. I make 23,000 a year and I pay a good 1/3 of my income to taxes, and sometimes almost half of my check goes to taxes. The top earners in this state have been able to slide by while everything is supported on the backs of lower earners.

I want the senators and the governor (who waste tax payer money) explain how it's fair that a person making 250,000 a year only pays 9% to taxes and a single mom earning 12,000 a yr has to pay 19% for taxes. I don't know but the math seems all wrong to me. People really need to wake up and throw the current politicians out of office and start over with the little guy in office.
