Personal concerns about financial aid

As a full time student at the University of Minnesota and parent of two young boys, I depend on financial aid to cover not just tuition, but a large part of my living expenses; health insurance, mortgage payment, childcare etc. [MPR News: Higher education takes a big hit in governor's budget] My concern is both changes in tuition for the 2009-2010 school year (my final year in the undergrad program) and reductions in my financial aid package.

Why don't absentee ballots count?

For the first time in my 30+ years of voting, I voted with an absentee ballot because I was going to be out of town on Election Day.

I hear lots of talk about the rejected absentee ballots and I must admit, I'm confused. Why were they rejected? Where were they from? Was my ballot one of those? Did my vote count? [MPR News: Court orders rejected absentees into Senate count] This makes me reluctant to ever vote absentee again.

If absentee ballots are offered to a voter as a way to vote if they can't physically get to the polling place, then the ballots should be counted. Otherwise, we should be informed that our votes might not count. It makes me wonder how many other states do this and how many other voters have been disenfranchised because of this.
