Minnesota is often touted as having the best healthcare system in the nation. Based on many measurements, our state provides better care to more people than almost every other state in the union. Minnesota is also home to some of the most advanced medical facilities in the world, leading medical research institutions and pioneering medical technology companies.

At the same time, many Minnesotans feel that our health system is broken. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, 383,000 Minnesotans lack basic medical coverage and the emergency room is becoming many poor residents' primary care clinic; Minnesota's most vulnerable populations — children and new immigrants — are not getting the healthcare that they need, and Minnesota's lauded medical technology sector is at risk of falling behind major initiatives in other states.

This month, The UBS Forum will host a series of events that explore the challenges facing Minnesota's healthcare system and we will discuss what action can be taken to ensure that we provide the best care possible for the people of our state.
