Morning Edition Merry Main St. Photo Challenge Official Rules

NO CONTRIBUTION IS NECESSARY - MAKING A CONTRIBUTION WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING THIS CONTEST

HOW TO ENTER THE ABOVE CONTEST: No contribution or purchase is necessary. Submit photographs for consideration 1) via Twitter.com by tweeting the image @CathyWurzer, tagging the image with #mnholiday, or 2) by using this online form between 4:00 a.m. CT on December 2, 2010 and 9:00 a.m. CT on December 16, 2010. No limit on the number of unique entries submitted by an entrant, and multiple unique entries allowed.

ELIGIBILITY: Anyone can enter the contest except persons who on or after April 1, 2010, were or are employees of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) or its related organizations, including American Public Media, their immediate family, or persons living in the same household. The challenge is open to any United States resident age 13 or older. Void where prohibited by law.

PHOTOGRAPH SPECIFICATIONS. To be considered for the Contest, photos must meet the following requirements:
1. Photos must feature a holiday display or include a December-based holiday element.
2. Photos must be the original work of the entrant, and the entrant must own all rights to the photos. (See "Releases" below.)
3. Photos must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Contest. The photo need not be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable.
4. Photos must have been taken within 21 calendar days before the date of entry.
5. Photos that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud. When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person's art.
6. The photo must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of MPR, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.

RELEASES. If the photo contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant or that are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any persons appear in the photo, then the entrant is responsible for obtaining any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use of the photo as described in these Official Rules without additional compensation. Upon MPR's request, each entrant must be prepared to provide (within seven (7) calendar days of receipt of MPR's request) a signed written license from the owner of any individual or any private property included in the photo entry. All releases must be in the form provided by MPR. Failure to provide such releases upon request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.

LICENSE. By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide non-exclusive license to MPR and its related companies to reproduce, distribute, and display the entry (along with a name credit) 1) in connection with the Contest and promotion of the Contest, including, but not limited to the MPR web site and MPR Facebook page, and 2) in any other noncommercial use in any media now or hereafter known. MPR will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use. MPR or its related organizations may use winner's name and likeness for advertising, fundraising, promotional or publicity purposes without further compensation.

PRIZES: One (1) winner will receive one (1) Morning Edition "swag bag" of public radio branded items as selected by MPR staff.

Approximate retail value: $25.00

Winner is responsible for any and all costs associated with using the prize. Prize is nontransferable, is not good for cash, and cannot be exchanged for other merchandise. Winner will receive delivery of the prize as arranged by MPR.

SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNER: Every eligible entry will be included in the contest. Winner will be selected by MPR staff, including MPRMorning Edition host Cathy Wurzer. Selection Criteria will be determined by MPR in its sole discretion and may include originality, humor, and/or composition. Display or publication of any entry on MPR's website does not indicate the entrant will be selected as a winner.

On Thursday, December 16, 2010 the winner will be announced on Twitter, Facebook, other social media sites, and the MPR Blog Objects in Mirror.

If MPR is unable to reach the winner via social media channels/email or the winner is unable to accept the prize by 5:00 p.m. Monday December 20, 2010, then the unawarded prize will go to another selection thereof until the prize is awarded. The rules detailing contest eligibility and method of selecting winners are on file at MPR.

GENERAL: By participating in this contest, entrants agree 1) to be bound by the Official Rules and 2) that MPR and related organizations, their agents and employees have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind which result from use of the prize, or by participation in the contest. Expenses as a result of winning this prize are the responsibility of the winner.

RESTRICTIONS: By participating in the Morning Edition Merry Main St. Photograph Challenge, an entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules, and by all decisions of MPR as the contest sponsor.
