Each year, the Minneapolis Police Department pays thousands of dollars to settle lawsuits against the department.

Police officials say the settlements are just one part of the price of policing, while some believe the settlements are a reflection of the department's leadership.

Note that a settlement does not mean the department is admitting fault in the case. However, it does end a lawsuit.

Note: More recent years might not be fully represented as lawsuits move through litigation.
