University of Minnesota researchers say they have discovered a way to block a cousin of the deadly HIV virus in female rhesus macaques by using an inexpensive food additive.
The U of M's discovery could be important because so far public health officials have not had as much success as they would like in preventing the spread of HIV around the world. Each year there are between 2 and 3 million new cases of HIV.
The slides below give a brief history of the fight against HIV/AIDS.
