Keep Minnesota Public Radio Strong

Ask your representatives in Congress to maintain funding for public broadcasting

On March 17 the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1076, a bill which would eliminate federal funding for National Public Radio and prohibit the use of federal funds by stations to acquire public radio content including MPR|APM's national programs. If this bill were to become law, it would have a devastating impact on the entire public radio system.

When you write or call, tell your representatives how important MPR and other public broadcasters are in your life. A personal and sincere expression is the best. Here are some ideas about what you might include in your message:

  • What is it about public broadcasting that you most value? Its ability to inform? To inspire?
  • What part does public broadcasting play in your daily life?
  • Is public broadcasting important to you in maintaining civic discourse and building community?
  • What role does public broadcasting play in educating our young people?
  • If you have heard previous alarms about cuts in public funding, today's threat is much more dangerous than anything we have seen before. Please contact your representatives in Congress now to prevent the destruction of public media in the United States.
