Ask MPR Mailbag

September 13, 2006

Why are you linking to an incorrect Web site?

On your Campaign 2006 page there is a link for myballot.net which claims to be able to produce custom ballots and candidate information for any address in Minnesota.

The myballot.net site has not been updated since 2004. The site indicates that they hope to have it updated by mid-October for the November elections.

While I realize that there is a significant amount of work that goes into such a site, perhaps it would be best to exclude the link from the MPR site until the information has been updated.

Dear Amy, thanks for writing in. The link you stumbled upon was indeed left over from the 2004 election cycle. It shouldn't have been on our Campaign 2006 page at all -- in fact, no one who works on the page was even aware that the link was still lurking around out there.

Frequent visitors to the Information Superhighway are used to running aground on dead and outdated links. We know how annoying that is, and we do our best to keep it from happening here. But you've spotted one that took us all by surprise. We've eradicated that link from our site. Thanks for pointing it out to us.
