Sharon Marko announced in January 2006 that she would not run for re-election as the state senator from District 57 (primarily Cottage Grove). She pulled out of the race on March 29, 2006. "The obstacles seem insurmountable," she said in a news release. She said she could not spend the time she needed on the congressional campaign and still serve her legislative district.
