Artistic Statement

Musical performance has played a huge, influential part in my life. When I was eight years old, I was timid. I always kept to myself and was scared to be bold and strong. That same year, I watched my first musical at my school. I was so shocked. The songs, costumes, lights, acting, and dance hypnotized me. Not only that, but the performers acted boldly on stage. I wanted that. I wanted bravery and strength. Much practice being on stage must have allowed them to become so stalwart. This was the starting point for my love of music. One of the things that I appreciate the most about performing is the ability to express myself and leave all my troubles of the day behind. In those few moments when I am on stage, every problem I have seems to disappear and I become completely enveloped in my character. In this state, I can perform to the best of my abilities. I love bringing joy and laughter to an audience while I perform. Musical performance has shaped me into the person that I am today. I define myself as an energetic, bold and confident individual. These characteristics all became possible from years of performing on stage. Some may say that these traits have been in me the whole time. However, I believe that music was the key to unlocking my hidden self.
