State support for the elderly faces an uncertain future

Todd County, Minn. – With more elderly people needing care, fewer young people to provide it and less state support to pay for it, Todd County is looking for solutions. A social worker plans to start a support group for family members caring for ailing relatives.

A nursing home administrator sees immigration as part of the answer to a looming nursing shortage. And the hospital in Staples hopes technology to monitor patients in their homes will save lives and money at the same time.
