In the Loop

Your world, your news -- remixed

Through all the twists and turns, formats and lengths, technologies and staff changes, In The Loop has fundamentally been about three things: Finding invigorating ways to explore the world around us, creating a new sound from public radio, and working with you to help us do it.

In The Loop is a community, a stream of content, and a scrappy podcast from Minnesota Public Radio, produced essentially by two guys. It's funny, it's serious, it's musical, it's curious, it's snarky, it's honest and transparent. We are what we are, and you'll probably need to give a listen to get it.

Since 2005, In The Loop has been an occasional studio-based special, a regular one-hour show with a live audience and live band, a half-hour Friday night week-in-review, and a source of special programming like the In The Loop "Story Slams," one-off specials, and bold web videos. (Because so many people still ask about it: The live audience show many of you remember fondly, which crescendoed to a full-blown season in the fall of 2007, is on hiatus for funding reasons. Same goes for Story Slams. But we suspect they're not gone forever.)

Through the changes, our audience has grown, supported us, and spread the word. We live in Minnesota, but our scope is global, with people listening and pitching in from around the U.S. and abroad. If you're new to us, visit our podcast page for the latest, and dig into our copious archives to surf years of great content. Our Facebook page is home to a tremendous amount of activity and conversation around the show, as well as many of our videos.

The Smarts
The awesomest house band ever. They perform the ITL theme and all of the "bed music" we use throughout the show, and they appear whenever ITL live events demand it. They also play frequently in the Twin Cities, keeping the deep repertoire of original ITL tunes in rotation.
