Candidate Positions on Iraq War

The following positions reflect those used for each candidate in the Select A Candidate survey. They come from the candidates; public statements, Web sites, and responses to Minnesota Public Radio questionnaires. Question: Do you favor or oppose a set date (timeline) for the removal of U.S. troops from Iraq?
Keith EllisonKeith Ellison ANSWER OPTION: I strongly favor a set date (timeline) for the removal of the U.S. troops from Iraq. We are now in our sixth year of War in Iraq, I remain convinced that the best Iraq policy for the United States is to bring our troops and end this war.

Barb WhiteBarb White ANSWER OPTION: I support withdrawing troops once Iraq is stable, but not before.
 CANDIDATE'S POSITION: Iraq is stabilizing due to the American Armed Forces, and our ally's efforts. The Surge has been successful. I would insist that we begin to encourage the Iraqi government to strongly govern itself and then we begin to pull out and bring our troops home. I would ask other members of Congress to help closely and continuously monitor with me the ongoing efforts and set up a plan to decrease our troop numbers there. Although I have not yet served in the 111th Congress, my plans are to give magnanimous credit to our Armed Forces and those who serve our Country. I am hoping for a pull out of our troops as soon as there is a stabilization of the new Iraqi Government. (More Info)
