When the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, same-sex marriage did not become legal where it was not legal before. But in states where same-sex marriage is legal, as it will be in Minnesota on Aug. 1, the ruling will bring changes in the rights enjoyed by married couples.
