The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it's closing its three Twin Cities locks to all traffic including commercial navigation on Thursday morning due to high flows on the Mississippi River.
The Corps says the locks will close at 8 a.m., when flows are expected to surpass 40,000 cubic feet per second and remain above that threshold until sometime next week.
The three locks were closed to recreation boaters for safety reasons Monday when river flows exceeded 30,000 cubic feet per second and will remain closed to pleasure traffic until flows fall below that mark.
