Complaint: offender had sex with vulnerable client at Courage Center
A man required to register as a predatory offender was able to pose as a personal care assistant at the Courage Center in Golden Valley and have sex with a client, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.
The client is a 32-year-old woman with a rare brain disease and diminished mental capacity. She uses a walker and wears hearing aids.
The complaint filed Wednesday says the woman met Corey Gordon, 42, in October 2012. Gordon and the woman exchanged texts over the next several months, even though her family told Gordon to stay away many times.
The woman's mother told police her daughter had been assessed as having the emotional ability of a 3rd or 4th grade child. The woman had therapy three days a week at the Courage Center.

Courage Center security said they saw Gordon and the woman going into dressing rooms together, but didn't stop them because Gordon had told them he was a personal care assistant. The woman's mother discovered the two were having sex and alerted Golden Valley Police last month.
The investigation found Gordon and the woman also had sex in her home and in a Mall of America bathroom.
Gordon was charged with felony criminal sexual conduct in the third degree. The penalty is up to 15 years in prison or as much as $30,000 dollars in fines.
In a statement, Courage Center says it can't comment because of client confidentiality. Gordon couldn't be reached. His address on the complaint is a Minneapolis boarding house and no one picked up the phone at that location.

"We have been made aware of the report from the Hennepin County Attorney's office about an incident involving one of our clients. The safety of our clients is very important to us. Our first concern is with our client and their family. We are unable to comment about this specific case to protect client confidentiality. We are fully cooperating with authorities and will continue to do so as the investigation proceeds."
