FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Volunteers in Fargo have filled 476,000 sandbags as part of an effort to protect against flooding on the Red River.

The Fargo Forum reports that volunteers on Saturday filled 88,000 sandbags at a storage shed for garbage trucks that has been transformed into Sandbag Central.

The bags may be needed to protect against what is predicted to be one of the top five Red River floods of all time in Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn.

The goal of the 10-day campaign that started Wednesday is to fill a million sandbags. Sandbag Central was closed Sunday, but will resume operations on Monday.
