ID for cyclist killed in Mpls. accident

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The bicyclist who was killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Hennepin County over the weekend has been identified as a 28-year-old Minneapolis woman.

The medical examiner's office says the woman was Elyse Mary Stern. She was riding her bike about 2:15 a.m. Saturday when she was struck by a car. She died of multiple blunt-force injuries.

Police Sgt. William Palmer says Stern wasn't wearing a helmet or reflective gear and her bike didn't have lights.

Minneapolis police say the driver fled after the collision but officers found him within minutes after witnesses provided a description of the vehicle.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man whom they say showed signs of intoxication. He was taken into custody on tentative charges of driving while intoxicated and criminal vehicular operation.
