FORT YATES, N.D. (AP) -- The American Red Cross and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe are signing an agreement Thursday that will allow the relief organization to prepare for and respond to future disasters on the reservation.

The memorandum of understanding will be the first between the American Red Cross and a tribal nation.

The Standing Rock Indian Reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.

The signing of the memorandum will take place Thursday at the tribe's headquarters in Fort Yates at 1 p.m.
