Maplewood teen charged in girlfriend's death

A 17-year-old from Maplewood is facing charges of second degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Anna Hurd,16, of North St. Paul was found dead in a Maplewood park February 23.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says just before she was killed, Anna had planned to break up with the suspect and leave the Twin Cities.

"Oftentimes that time period in a relationship is the most dangerous for a lot of victims, and sometimes those dangerous situations result in homicide," Choi said.

Choi has petitioned a juvenile court judge to certify the suspect for trial as an adult.

A hearing is set for Wednesday afternoon.

MPR News is not naming the suspect since he has not been certified to be tried as an adult.
