Soccer brawl could lead to suspensions
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) -- A brawl after a high school soccer game in Maple Grove could keep players out of the state tournament and might lead to criminal charges.
Prairie Seeds Academy of Brooklyn Park defeated Totino-Grace High School in Fridley by a score of 2-1 Friday. The game in Maple Grove was to determine which team advances to the tournament.
But a prolonged scuffle involving multiple players broke out after the game. At least one Totino-Grace player was injured and required stitches.
The fight raises the possibility of Prairie Seeds suspensions. The Minnesota State High School League is investigating the incidents.
Video captured by Channel 12 Sports shows a Prairie Seeds player punching the other coach in the head as the coach tried to separate players.
The police said they are investigating.
