What's being done to prevent home foreclosures?

LISTEN

Roughly four years into the housing crisis, there are still tens of thousands of foreclosures happening every month. Efforts to prevent foreclosures are making headlines - from rapper Brother Ali getting arrested at an Occupy Homes protest in Minneapolis to new policy proposals on the federal, state and municipal levels.

David Snyder, organizer with Jewish Community Action in St. Paul, and University of Minnesota law professor Prentiss Cox will join The Daily Circuit Thursday as we look at these initiatives and the impact they are having on homeowners and the housing market.

Any more fixes to help homeowners won't come from the federal level, Cox said.

"The Obama administration has done what they are going to do," he said. "Nothing else will happen on the federal level - before or after the election."

Chris Gray, organizer with Occupy Homes Minnesota, will also join the discussion to talk about efforts by protesters to bring about change.

"The street protests are the final part of a whole process where we try and keep homeowners in their homes," he said. "We build a campaign to get into negotiations with the bank, that happens before the concrete barrels come out."
