A committee in the Minnesota House will look to the south today for ideas to improve Minnesota's schools. The Education Reform Committee will hear what's being billed as "The Florida Story."
About ten years ago, then-Florida governor Jeb Bush signed into law a series of education reforms. They included more school choice for parents, more tests for students, and more money for schools whose students scored higher on those tests.
Patricia Levesque will testify about those reforms today at the legislature. She's the executive director of the Tallahassee-based Foundation for Excellence in Education, founded by former Governor Bush.
MPR's Phil Picardi spoke with Ms. Levesque about how Florida schools and students have been impacted since the reforms were enacted back in 2002.
