With tall ships, sunken treasure coming to Duluth
A Wisconsin-based treasure hunter is bringing more than $7 million in treasure and artifacts to Duluth this summer.
Scott Mitchen's International Explorations has been uncovering sunken and other treasure for more than 30 years.
He'd like to put his and other collections on permanent display, and thinks Duluth is just the place to do it.
Mitchen is testing the waters this summer with a two-week show called Treasure Adventure, next to Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park. Mitchen has elaborate ideas that include a museum; shops and entertainment, but he says the plans are still preliminary.
"We're looking to do something permanent here. On what scale we don't know," he said.
The eclectic collection includes pottery, cannon balls, silver and gold coins. Treasure Adventure opens July 24th, to coincide with Duluth's Tall Ships Festival which runs July 28th through August 3rd.
