Firefighters from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are prepared for a busy weekend.
Conditions remain dry throughout most of the state. The weather forecast calls for warm, windy conditions with low humidity. The fire danger is rated very high to extreme for the northern two-thirds of the state.
In addition to 250 DNR firefighters, a 20-person crew from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan will join their counterparts in Minnesota this weekend.
Ron Stoffel, fire suppression supervisor for the DNR, points out that while many parts of the Twin Cities received rain late this week, northern Minnesota did not.
DNR personnel respond to some 1,500 wildfires every year. They've fought more than 700 fires that have burned more than 15,000 acres this year.
