Members of the city of Duluth's largest union have voted to reject a contract offer, authorizing a strike.
Jim Dreier, chairman of AFSCME Local 66's negotiating team, says an overwhelming majority of union members refused the final contract offer from the city. He says 93 percent of union members participated in Tuesday's vote.
The Duluth News Tribune reports that sticking points include a provision that could authorize the city to force four days of unpaid furlough and define more people as "temporary workers."
AFSCME Local 66 has 10 days to notify the Bureau of Mediation Services of its intent to strike.
