3 family members killed in Lakeville crash

Police say three members of a Lakeville family were killed when a pickup driven by a teenager collided head-on with their car in the southeastern Twin Cities.

Police identify the three killed as the driver of the car, 34-year-old Debra Ann Buhmann; her mother, 71-year-old Shirley Ann Iverson; and 8-year-old Alexis Ferkle, who was Buhmann's niece.

Police say the crash happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday when a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 17-year-old crossed the center line on a Dakota County road in Lakeville and struck the Hyundai Elantra sedan. The teen, from Dundas, was taken to HCMC in Minneapolis, but a condition was not available.

Authorities don't believe alcohol or weather was a factor. Witnesses say the pickup did not have its headlights on before the crash.
