Mpls officials holding public meetings on Hennepin, First Avenue conversion
Minneapolis city officials will hold two public meetings to explain the upcoming conversion of Hennepin and First Avenues to two-way streets.
Hennepin and First Avenues will switch from one-way to two-way streets in downtown Minneapolis on October 10 and 11, weather permitting.
The city gathered public input on the changes at several community meetings held in 2008. City officials say they hope the changes will make the downtown area easier to navigate, and will encourage pedestrian traffic.
Bicycle lanes will be added to First Avenue, with buses and bikes sharing a lane with right-turning vehicles on Hennepin Avenue.
On-street parking along First Avenue will convert to driving lanes during peak travel times.
The informational meetings will be held on Sept. 24 and Oct. 5, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at City Hall, Room 319, at 350 S. 5th St.
