State Representative Mark Olson isn't quitting his bid for the state Senate despite losing the District 16 primary.

The Secretary of State's office says Olson has filed paperwork to have any write-in votes cast for him counted in the November general election. State law requires such a filing for the votes to count.

Alison Krueger won the Republican primary for the district, with 1,708 votes to 1,437 votes for Olson. She will be on the ballot against DFLer Lisa Fobbe.

Olson says his supporters encouraged him to file the write-in form, and after thinking and praying about it, he did so.

Olson, of Big Lake, was expelled from the House Republican Caucus last summer after his conviction on domestic assault charges. He said he would not seek re-election to the House.
