Pawlenty to host health care meeting for legislators
Governor Pawlenty has invited the leading health care experts in the Legislature to a three-hour meeting this morning at the Governor's Mansion to discuss their differences on health care legislation.
The House and Senate passed different health care plans that increase health coverage for low income and middle income Minnesotans.
The bills would also set prices to treat certain conditions and would provide incentives to doctors to try to prevent chronic diseases.
DFL House Majority Leader Tony Sertich said he's hopeful some changes will become law this session.
"For us as Democrats, health care reform status quo is not an option this year that we are interested in so we are going to remain engaged in this process and hopefully the governor being engaged can help get some consensus and get something passed this year that we can build on," Sertich said.
Gov. Pawlenty has said that the health care bills that passed the House and Senate are flawed but fixable. He said lawmakers need to work beyond increasing coverage to lower the total cost of health care for those who already have insurance.
