Supreme Court won't hear appeal of 35W bridge bid award

December 13, 2007

St. Paul, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's top court won't get involved in a dispute over the new Interstate 35W bridge.

The state Supreme Court denied a request from two construction executives to review a Ramsey County judge's decision to allow the project to begin.

The executives argued that the Minnesota Department of Transportation used a flawed process to award the $234 million bridge contract to Flatiron Constructors, making the contract illegal.

They lost in the lower court, and sought to bypass the Court of Appeals to save time.

The Supreme Court's denial of review showed up on a list of cases the court considered hearing.

Work started six weeks ago to replace the freeway bridge that collapsed on Aug. 1.
