American artists had an answer for Picasso
by Marianne Combs, Minnesota Public RadioJune 18, 2007
Minneapolis — The Walker Art Center has opened a new exhibit focusing on Pablo Picasso's influence on America's greatest painters.
Artists such as Willem de Kooning, Max Weber, and Jackson Pollack strove to beat Picasso at his own game, creating works that heavily referenced Picasso's images.
In a visit to the Walker, Minnesota Public Radio's Marianne Combs spoke to the exhibit's curator, Michael FitzGerald, who says the American response to Picasso spawned a whole new artistic movement.
