College grads gain degrees, lose health insurance

Graduation season is here and that means millions of twenty-somethings are just starting life on their own. Though they have gained their degrees, many are about to lose something important, their health insurance.

The fact that graduates are falling off their parents' health insurance before getting a job with health coverage is just one reason a lot of twenty-somethings are avoiding the doctor. But young adults can have surprising health challenges.

This past July, the National Institute for Health Care Management recognized the problem and termed young-adult health care a "national imperative."

Regular medical analyst Jon Hallberg joined All Things Considered host Tom Crann to talk about the care needs and challenges for this sector of the population.
