Actor Joseph C. Phillips is best known for his role on "The Cosby Show" and his commentaries on National Public Radio. Phillips is the author of a new book, "He Talk Like a White Boy: Reflections on Faith, Family, Politics and Authenticity."

The book presents Phillips' views on race from the perspective of a conservative African American, who has often found himself at odds with popular notions of how black Americans are supposed to speak and think. Phillips spoke with Minnesota Public Radio's Brandt Williams.

Phillips appears at Kieran's Pub in Minneapolis Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss his book.
