Children's Defense Fund president and founder Marian Wright Edelman is fond of quoting Sojourner Truth, the illiterate ex-slave who became a powerful voice in the abolition and suffrage movements. Truth once accused the U.S. Constitution of having "a little weasel in it," referring to inequality for women and African Americans.

Speaking Thursday in Minneapolis, Edelman said America is still plagued by many "weasels" that perpetuate inequality and poverty.
