How big is Second Life really?

Posted at 11:57 AM on January 4, 2007 by Jon Gordon

The blogosphere has been engaged in a debate over virtual world game Second Life. As it gets more attention in the mainstream media, some critics are beginning to question the purported number of players. CNET News.com has a roundup of the controversy.

What's new:

Second Life publisher Linden Lab is getting heat from bloggers and gamers who say the company isn't giving customers the full story when it comes to the virtual world's population numbers.

Bottom line:

Some may wonder why the exact number of residents constituting the Second Life population really even matters. But the game is growing fast, and to investors and advertisers, numbers matter a lot.
