Powerful thunderstorms pounded portions of east central Minnesota on Saturday evening with large hail. Hail one inch in diameter or greater is sufficient to produce roof damage. Anything one and a half inches or larger is definitely worth contacting your insurance agent for an inspection.

Today, Lead Forecaster Bill Togstad retires after more than thirty-five years with the federal government and the National Weather Service. Bill worked at the Twin Cities office for twenty-five years. Congratulations on a wonderful career with NOAA.

It looks to be a very active week with regard to thunderstorms. A warm front will waver across central Minnesota creating a boundary for showers and thunderstorms. The most likely threat of severe weather will be large hail. There is some concern about locally heavy rainfall as well.
