Tonight on Radio Heartland, we'll hear about new recordings from two musicians who are well known and much loved in Minnesota and the upper Midwest - Peter Ostroushko and Becky Schlegel.
Peter Ostroushko's new disc is called "When the Last Morning Glory Blooms" - a collection of nine waltzes and one old time fiddle tune that Peter tossed in there just because he likes it. We'll talk about the waltz and a specific performance by Norman Blake of "The Nine Years Waltz" that changed the way Peter looked at the way he was playing and influenced everything that came afterwards.
In hour two, Becky Schlegel visits to talk about her new recording "Dandelion". Becky is originally from South Dakota , but spent quite a few years living and playing music in Minnesota before moving with her family to Nashville last fall. We'll talk about playing piano in her mother's band, her talent for writing and performing sad beautiful songs, and why she felt she had to change the cover of the new disc to a vivid, un-dandelion-like pink.
Peter Ostroushko and Becky Schlegel tonight on Radio Heartland, 9 to 11 pm on MPR news stations.
This program will be repeated Sunday at noon and Monday at 6pm online on radioheartland.org.
