Big birthday week finishes close to home with the hardest working man in public radio. Garrison Keillor is 67, and deserves every bit of hullabaloo and acclaim we can muster. But I'm sure he wouldn't want a fuss made over it. That's why we didn't put a name on the cake.

About the photo: The cake is actually a working hot air balloon. I used Photo Shop to set it atop J. Stephen Conn's image of a water tower in Oakland, Nebraska.
I suspect our Trial Balloon readership is mostly of the low-key birthday mindset. But what if you HAD to endure a major celebration? Let's say going "over the top" for your birthday has become a key element of the stimulus - a Gold for Geezers program designed to bolster our flagging national birthday party infrastructure. So it's not about you anymore - the country needs this to lift it's spirits. How far would you like to take it?
Fireworks in every major city?
Free ice cream for all the children?
Pony rides at Churchill Downs?
Bounce House on the International Space Station?
