Tonight on Radio Heartland on Minnesota Public Radio News, local stars will guide us through two musically adventurous hours.
In hour one, the guest is Dan Newton, aka "Daddy Squeeze". Dan is the man behind Café Accordion Orchestra, Jumbo YaYa, The Rockin' Pinecones and Art Carnage, to name only a few local bands that have featured his accordion playing. Dan's musical tastes are as colorful as his many pairs of tennis shoes. We'll find out what kind of music he's enjoying this summer.
In hour two, the Roe Family Singers will take up residence in our studio. The group was started by Kim and Quillen Roe as an expression of their love for old time music. The band grew, and grew ... adding banjos, guitars, bass and even a musical saw. The ensemble is up to nine members now - ten if you count baby Elspeth, whose voice enters the mix as a delighted squeal. We'll hear songs from the Roe Family Singers' latest album, "The Earth and All That Is In It".
That's tonight on Radio Heartland, from 9 to 11 on Minnesota Public Radio News.
Very enjoyable listening this evening, good music to make a mulberry pie by. Never heard the "refrigerator" song by the Berrymans before... :)
