Shock and Awe? Cute and Awwwwww!

Thanks to everyone who offered up names for their online personas yesterday - The Coat Lady, Tired and Anxious Goat Mom, Bug Man, Bunny Greenjeans, Cyncia, Equivoque, JoJoDancer, WheelDancer, That Guy In The Hat, Herbalmike, Zen Parris, Queen of the Drains and Auffer.

Another round of thanks to those who responded to last Friday's question about how and when and where you listen to Radio Heartland.
I'm still wading through over 80 responses.
To those who asked "Does this mean Radio Heartland is struggling?" the answer is NO.
Your membership support has been fantastic.

Unlike traditional radio, we don't have "ratings" so there's no other yardstick we can use right now as a reliable measure of success. At some point I'm sure a series of numbers will emerge that we can obsess over - such is a way of life for broadcasters.

But your support has been heartening, and your interest in this adventure keeps me optimistic and grateful.
Although it's always wise to anticipate problems.
So just in case our "numbers" are down - it's time for more baby animals!

The two newest goats at Barb's are pictured here, mere hours after Alba's surprising delivery. Yesterday Barb said "The two boys and Alba ... are still quite weak - the littlest too weak to suckle on Alba (if she stood still for him) so i'm bottle feeding her milk to him every four hours."

Barb is working to keep these guys alive and we are all hoping for the best.

Baby Robins small.jpgAnd Kathy sent this photo last week. These very young robins are also hungry and fragile, just like all the new arrivals at this time of year. They may not be strong, but they appear to be strong willed. Before long, they'll be pooping on your car, Kathy!

Mother Chimp.JPGAnd in case you needed a reminder of the power of the mothering instinct, Kay forwarded this photo of a chimp who is a serial caregiver, adopting a number of felines at a sanctuary in South Carolina. This was a news story late last year and has been resurfacing from time to time. There's a You Tube video of Anjana sitting in front of a television, watching herself being discussed on "Ellen".
Yes, it has come to this. We're watching videos of monkeys watching TV. At least I am.

Here's another video, just to give you a chance to say "Awwwwwwwww", if you haven't yet. And here's hoping the relationship is just as good once the tigers get BIG.

OMG! I think I am going to just pass out from the overload of cuteness! Good luck, Barb to you and the new little ones! I am off with my choir to do a school tour this morning in St. Paul, so I will be getting some more doses of cute... Have a wonderful day and a great weekend, All!

HI, early morning at Concordia Norwegian Language Adult Weekend...people wandering in, coffee not quite ready yet...folk dancing not until 8 am, then breakfast (yeah, gjetost!) and the day begins.

Loons woke me up htis morning, but the lake is icy gray, the ground is wet and did someone say snow??? (Last year we had 20 inches between Thursday and Sunday)

thanks for the baby animal photos...hope those baby goats are doing better today.

Good morning,all!

Mighty cute critters all right! If I were that chimp I'd be seriously thinking about wearing an armor diaper during tiger romping.
Dale and Mike, just wondering, do either of you have pseudonyms?

Good Friday Morning!

Yea for baby animals! I suspect there will be an uncomfortable role reversal between the chimp and tigers. We grow up with dinner becoming mom but I suspect there would be a point in the chimp mom/tiger relationship where mom would become dinner.

Good to hear that Radio Heartland is thriving! No surprise as far as I'm concerned with Dale at the wheel and Mike at the rudder.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Morning Heartlanders. Thanks for the SUPER cute, Dale -- no such thing as cute overload at my house.

Barb -- trying to send more positive baby goat energy your way. Hope all is well.

Cynthia/Cyncia (I like the nickname) - hope you enjoy your weekend.

A girlfriend of mine scored Ten Tenors tickets for us for tonight. How about something from Cantus to celebrate -- maybe that gorgeous Ave Maria?

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Good morning, all.

I want to see the footage of the monkey watching itself on television!

Wishing everyone a great weekend.

awww, i like those baby animals...makes ME feel hopeful and optimistic, which isn't always an easy feat.

great to see the video, dale! and the baby goats, and baby robins, too.

ah, friday---and i'm "working at home" again---woo hoo! possibly will borrow a few work hours for yard work today, and pay them back tomorrow when it's chilly and rainy.

Hooray for baby animals - hope the goats thrive, Barb. I'm off today for a field trip with Daughter's preschool class - almost as cute as baby animals, but they don't need to be spoon-fed anymore. (I'm trying not to be jealous of your weekend of Norwegian camp, Cynthia - but don't know that I'm succeeding...)

Elinor, if you watch the video of Ajana and Cub, once it's done playing a row of squares should appear at the bottom of the screen.
These are additional videos of Ajana and one is labeled "Ajana Watching Herself on Ellen". Take a look!

Greetings Heartlanders! Cuteness abounds -- and a lovely day to look forward to.

I normally work part-time, but I've worked three full 8-hr days in a row while my manager is out; plus I had training two nights in a row as well. Finally a day off! I know that's pathetic compared to those working fulltime. It's been a while since I've worked fulltime, actually.

It's good to be back on the blog and able to listen to RH and Dale, again. Hoping for good news from Barb in Blackhoof soon about the baby goats. Have a wonderful day, all!

Busy week here in St Paul- and early morning getting son to school by 5 for 6a.m. band trip departure. It'll be a long day.
Had to comment on the RH "listenership". I received a call from MPR one day this week thanking us for longtime membership and asking if we could donate more for upcoming member drive where members match new members, etc.. She was very pleasant on the phone and told me what membership went for, getting especially excited when launching into PHC stuff. (There is more to MPR than PHC, thank you very much!) It seemed to astound her when I interrupted her and said that I was really enjoying Radio Heartland. That's about it. We can slowly take over the world with RH, just let people know about it! Have a good weekend!

Amy In Saint Paul -

You make a great point -- maybe we can work in a plug for RH in our telemarketing scripts. I can tell you that during the member drives, we do ask folks what they listen to (classical music, the Current, etc) and Radio Heartland is one of the options. So when you call in to renew your membership (or renew online) make sure you mention Radio Heartland.

Dale is clearly trying to cute-chimp-video his way to a mammoth listening audience. I was about to criticize this strategy as a cheap, shameless gimmick and unworthy of him, but then I watched that funny Anjana playing with the cub, and I said "Awwwwww," and forgot all about it.

Awwwwwwwww!
I love the sweater on the baby goat; I hope they are getting stronger.

Thanks, Dale, for playing the Bill Staines for my birthday.

Hmmm, no word from Barb in Blackhoof today. That's not a good sign. Sending good vibes up nort.

Jennifer - I agree, it makes for a worry. I was thinking that maybe the number of comments on the blog is way down today because we're all a little afraid.......
