While it may seem like I'm really in the studio today, the whole thing is a miserable sham.
I'm taking a long weekend.
The extended weekend is a wonderful thing, as long as you don't abuse it or overdo it. And it's always wise for the employed to remember how fortunate they are to have a job.
That said, what was your very best three day weekend ever?
The one that lasted four days.
Many years ago... planned trip by train to Chicago. Boyfriend said we didn't have to guy tickets ahead, could just get them that morning. You see where this is going... not to Chicago. Super bummed so decided to take an adventurous trip to St. Paul! (We were in Minneapolis.) Packed up the car, made a "St. Paul or Bust" sign and drove the 15 minutes to the other side of town. Holed up in a little hotel, walked all over St. Paul, did the Capitol and the Children's Museum. Maybe not the best three-day weekend -- those would be time spent with my daughter, but this little trek to St. Paul was definitely memorable!
Heartlanders (& Mike... are you there when Dale isn't?), have a great day and a fabulous weekend!
I am here, holding down the fort, Sherrilee. Loved your story. Who says St. Paul shuts down at 5? It's an evil rumor...
Labor Day Weekend, the summer of Katrina - my first trip to the extraordinary MN State Fair. My son-in-law's mom and I went up together and our kids were our guides. A picture perfect day for walking the miles of grounds. We went to a PHC at the grandstand that night. Before the show, we sat in the grass at the MPR booth and ate french fries. It was very cool to see the pictures of the MPR people, especially Dale and Jim Ed.
Greetings Heartlanders!
Although it was more than a 3-day weekend, it was one of our few and very memorable vacations (before kids) MANY moons ago.
My husband and I stayed at a beautiful and quaint Bed & Breakfast in Marine-on-St. Croix, MN (hate driving too far). We slept in, had coffee in bed, drove around antiqueing, went canoeing for a day, went out to eat, went walking, etc. We were there around the 4th of July, so we went to the very small town parade and fireworks.
Thoroughly enjoyable. It was the kind of place where we got to know the owner because we were there during the week. On weekend, we got to know the other guests while eating the amazing breakfasts the gracious owner prepared.
Have a nice weekend, Dale. Thanks, Mike for minding the store -- have a great day, all!
Good morning, all!
Three women folded into a VW Beetle traveling the back roads of SW Minnesota - with Herman the German as our guide back to our "home away from home" for the weekend. We waded in Plum Creek near Walnut Grove, drank beer at Schell's with the peacocks, attempted to throw atl-atls at the Jefferson Petroglyphs...and came across a free range nun (in full habit) in one of the small towns we drove through...dubbed "free range" because we were a little punchy and she seemed far away from her natural habitat (not a church spire or cloister wall in site) - though definitely out walking with a purpose.
Three day weekends????
We don't need no stinikin' three day weekends!!
Five years into retirement!
BWAAAAAAHAAHAAHAA.....
Skeeterbait in Wisconsin
Off for a whole two day weekend...hope you all have a good one
(wondering where the lions are? Especially that mountain lion recently sighted in Spooner...if I'm out hiking, hope it isn't in my neighborhood!)
Good Morning!
My favorite three day weekend was a few years back in a year we had no snow. Being an avid cross country skier it was a bad year but on a whim we got up one morning, called a friend and jumped in the car and drove to ABR in Michigan's UP for the best skiing ever. It was a little dicey getting up there right at the end as it started to snow pretty heavily but we made it and it snowed the rest of the day while we were skiing. It was great big flakes floating down with no wind for a total of six inches of perfect snow on top of the two feet they already had. It was a glorious weekend.
Have a great weekend everyone, & special thanks to Mike Pengra for minding the shop!
Happy Spring, you guys and gals!
It's the "Sailor on Leave" that's most memorable to me. Summer of 1970, between high school and college, I'm working at a resort in St. Germain, Wisconsin. My boyfriend shows up in his sailor whites, and my, oh my, he was so good-looking! I was definitely in love then.
Happy you are on a long weekend, nothing like a good sham.
My favorite three day weekend...a trip to New Orleans between Christmas and New Year this past. My son and his bride had a small wedding celebration in New Orleans(her hometown) after they eloped to Australia a year and a half ago.
It just so happened that Prospect.1 New Orleans was happening while we were there and it was incredible. The art exhibit consisted of conceptual art placed all over the city. If you are interested in art, New Orleans, the culture of New Orleans, Katrina aftermath, etc. you might want to google the website Prospect.1 New Orleans and plan to attend in two years.
Free shuttles around the city, free admission, and hospitality overflowing!
The post wedding celebration and Prospect.1, a perfect 3 (maybe 4) day weekend!
So happy to have RH!!!
I’d have to say my best 3 day weekends were the 3 times I went to the opening Fri at the State Fair to see the Morning show!
Sorry those days are gone......
Drove to Wisconsin Dells, then all in one day by myself, I kayaked (for the first time) at Mirror Lake State Park, hiked both sides of bluff at Devil's Lake State Park, and took in double feature at drive-in theater (fell asleep during the second show, which was the one I wanted to see--of course).
I've waited so long, and spring is finally here. Taking a three-day weekend too. It would be nice to hear Peter Ostroushko's Bonaparte Crossing the Alps sometime soon.
Off topic: We used to listen to Dale and Jim Ed when we live in MN in the 90s. You introduced us to so many different artists abd brought humor and humility to the air in a refreshing manner. How delighted I am to find you here and with the same mix. It's enough to make me want to augment the sound system on my laptop. Thanks for being there and may you have enough years to outlast me!
Hey Heartlanders,
Thanks for keeping the chat going this morning! Dale's back on Monday and we're ramping up for the big "Power of Two" show next Saturday night (3/28) at the Fitzgerald. Please spread the word. It's our first event and we're hoping for a good turnout. (How's that for shameless promotion?) Three fabulous duos: Storyhill, Lou and Peter Berryman, and Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman. See you there! (geez....I sound like a commercial, don't I?)
Ah, with all this talk of dinosaurs and love songs, you should listen to "Be My Brontosaurus Baby" by Hugh Moffatt.
"Wouldn't it be wondrous, to wander the cretaceous, a couple of triceratops pals?"
