See the North Sea

I've been an oil user all my life, but I never took the time to visit the oil in its natural habitat. That's just self-centered, don't you think?

Coming out here has sure increased my admiration of fossil fuels and all the people who work so hard to bring them to us. And when you're on vacation, there's nothing like sitting in your lawn chair at water's edge, letting the refreshing gooey black spray cool you naturally as it drifts by, suspended on the breeze.

If I have one complaint, it's the cabana boy.
He hasn't been by with drinks at all this afternoon!

Morning Mike, morning Heartlanders. So quiet this morning. Are we all waiting breathlessly for some warmer weather today (at least those of us up here in the frozen tundra)? Or are we just struck dumb by Dale's amazing travels? How about "Sound of Silence" for our quiet blog this morning?

Dale
We're leaving for Barcelona this morning. Meet us at the entrance of the Sagrada Familia at noon on Friday!

Good Morning...Dale, I think I see a salmon farm in the background. Are you catching a few fish while you while away the hours on the oil rig?

I don't see Pickles though. Perhaps he is on shore waiting to haul the fish away?

Good Morning Sherilee and friends. I'm just waiting for the coffee to kick in.

I'm sorry, but I can't see Dale partying on a North Sea oil rig. And the whole jungle thing yesterday didn't work for me either.

Maybe he really is working with the goats...

Announcer's voice: "Dale Connelly, you've just created a brand new radio service from the ashes of a cancelled morning show. You are playing music from the washboard to the fretboard (and back) 24 hours a day to listeners all over the Heartland and beyond and all of this without a traditional radio station. Dale what are you going to do next?"

DC: "I'm going to the South Pole, Malaysia, the North Sea and beyond."

Cut to picture of the mpr building with multily-colored trial balloons floating upward as "When You Wish Upon A Star" is played by a chorus of bagpipes and tubas."

Hello Good People,
I cannot come up with anything clever this morning - sorry to disappoint, Mike. These photos this week make me think of a quote by Groucho Marx - "Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?"

Holy Cow, Dale - Isn't this a Show Jumping course, similar to those seen in the Olympics? That first water hazard is tough one, but I think I see Pickles rounding the cable jump - of course her red Stetson matches the color of the course, so I might be wrong.

I think you should be riding Pickles, Dale, not sending her out on the course alone so that you can fish for salmon, as noted by Cynthia - remember, this is her vacation, too.

Mike, might this postcard inspirer a fishing song - maybe by Taj Mahal? See what JASPER thinks. Many thanks!

Good Morning!
I have to agree with Mike this whirlwind travel doesn't seem like Dale's style. I suspect he has been schlepping around the house with a book in one hand and his favorite beverage in the other just kicking back in his fuzzy slippers and robe. I'm sure getting Radio Heartland up and running has been a ton of work and he is just relaxing and getting back into his groove. I'd guess that the places he's claiming to be are actually taken from the books in his reading list for the week.

But then again, maybe that's just my fantasy...

Good morning! I'm still missing the give and take of 2 hosts. Most morning shows have at least 2 DJs. Any chance that will ever happen? Weekly co-hosts?

If Dale is riding Pickles around a jump course on an oil rig or sitting about in his fuzzy slippers and robe reading books, I hope he takes time to slip into Duluth tomorrow night in time to take in a concert with Jearlyn and Billy Steele at the Sacred Heart Music Center. And he should bring the Radio Heartland audience with him. The place will be rocking for sure!

Hey there Heatlanders...

I feel great this morning! The coffee has kicked in; it's warmer; it's Thursday and Mike & Jasper fixed the "playing now" feature that I missed so much for the past 3 days. Whoo hoo....

Mark, I'm with you, I picture Dale enjoying a much needed rest at home, coffee in hand maybe checking the blog once in a while. A stay at home vacation is also, a fantasy of mine.

Got a late start this morning. Oil rig? Call that a vacation? If it was me, I would go to the Bahamas and warm up for awhile. Lucky for me, so far the temp has only dipped down to 29 degrees at night. Daytime still gets to around 50 degrees.

Just plain enjoying the music. Nuff for now. Have a good day!

Heartlanders - It occurs to me that Mike Pengra might be the next person to take a much needed vacation from the labors of radio work - perhaps as soon as Dale gets back! Should we be trying to woo some hints from the above mentioned person on the basis of 'Need to Know'?

I wonder if JASPER is also thinking of slipping away to a computer vacation land? Can you guess what JASPER's vacation spot might be - IBM headquarters?

Wherever Dale is, I hope the cabana boy stops by with fresh drinks (spirited or not) for him. I am captivated by the idea of a cabana boy. Wonder if I could lobby for one at work? Nothing like a little daydreaming...

Hello All-
It seems I've developed a problem with the streaming in the last 10 minues or so. Anyone else having issues? Mike, is this something you need to be aware of?
Thanks.

Nevermind-it seems to have fixed itself. Thanks anyway.

Regarding two DJs. I am sure Dale would love to have someone to talk to but I am sure it is a cost issue.

In the meantime Dale seems to be talking with us via the blog. I think it is a great idea. I just wish this work thing didn't get in the way so I could keep up :-)

I think if RH ever needs to give away a prize it should be a guest slot on RH. It would be fun to hear the voices of the other listeners.

I was thinking about bloggers as guest hosts. That lead me to thinking about the goats being guest hosts. Then it made me wonder if the whole HD thing could go traveling? Maybe a remote broadcast from the goat barn?

Posted by sherrilee | February 5, 2009 8:44 AM

guess i'm not the only one missing a sense of conversation in the waking-up hours....liking the idea of guest hosts from listeners!

i've also been thinking/feeling that when there's no dj at all, the music seems a bit (dare i say) random....wouldn't it be fun to have the Celtic hour or two on saturday morning 7-9? sunday a.m. could be instrumental (missing dworsky and others doing solo piano) and acoustic and contemplative? sunday evening around suppertime could be all silly and funny, to battle those sunday night blues; maybe a crooners and show tunes show once in a while....

don't get me wrong, this is still the best radio i've listened to except for the morning show! just can't help pressing toward perfection from excellence :-)

Great suggestions, Heartlanders! Keep 'em coming!

The play list (2/5/09) was so great this afternoon. don't know who picked it - if it was Jasper or not, but keep up the good work.

thanks for the great variety of music.

My tastes and the country-heavy selection don't mesh this morning. Will check out the playlist later. I love it when there is a broader mishmash of genres (and not so much country!).
