They say this isn't much of a vacation spot for Minnesotans, but seeing so much pristine snow without the plows, road salt and those icky car turds is an exhilarating experience!
And there's no getting around it. Penguins are cute! The movies don't do them justice.
Plus, they don't have the same social problems as goats.
I'm glad I got to see this before it all melts!
The next time I come here, they'll probably have a Hard Rock Café'!
wow. now that's a neat surprise - and i think quite exotic! further south than any of us suspected!
ya well, those penguins are cute but they can't be milked, can they? says Dodger.
have a fun time, Dale and family; Mike is minding the store very well. but do come home soon. it's fun to have you "live." i just keep thinking of what a task it was to stack up all this week's programs before you left. uffda.
Morning Heartlanders. Barb, I was just thinking the same thing... imagining Dale sitting in the studio alone for hours on end, recording the bits and pieces of the show -- maybe Mike kept him company? What superhuman effort to keep us going at 0-Dark Hundred every morning!
Now Dale - did you check with your horse, Pickles, before you set out on this trek? Riding the cattle round-up is one thing, but I don't know about herding penguins. Plus, isn't it awfully hard for horses to put on long underwear? But I guess that's what side-kicks are for - supporting a friend through all kinds of interesting experiences. Stay warm!
I recognize that picture, Dale. It's a mural on the wall in the penguin exhibit at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. If you're comfortable sharing your celebrity status with the staff, they'll let you help feed your tuxedoed friends their krill. (I know this for a fact because I made it up.)
So maybe you are redecorating your Great Room? You cannot beat Nebraska Furniture Mart for prices!
Good morning Mike. I enjoyed your posts yesterday. You are funny and witty and need to be on here more, dude.
Good morning everybody! You sure have great imaginations. I guess that's par for the course if you listen to radio. I'm still trying to get the image of Dale in a Stetson and cowboy boots out of my head. But now, I've gotta deal with the whole krill thing!
I do love penguins though.
Glad you're enjoying the music today...on this second day of six more weeks of winter.
Mike, I agree with Donna...you are witty and funny and need to be on the blog (and air) more...especially it seems to keep up this conversation which is so quiet this morning.
Didn't Jim Ed begin as a behind the scenes kinda guy...?
Good Morning!
I had to go back and review yesterday's comments to understand the Dale in a Stetson and cowboy boots but now, like Mike, I can't get it out of my head. I do hope that we won't be having a six weeks of winter left countdown mostly because we are sure to have a series of huge snowstorms in the weeks after winter is supposed to be over.
I do have to chuckle a bit when the recorded Dale refers to the blog since that Dale of the past has no idea what the discussion of today is about. Perhaps he'll read it from his sequestered location and run out and pick up that Stetson before picking the reins back up next week.
I am curious why we never hear Mike's voice any more. It seemed like there was a while that he filled in for Jim Ed (and those are hard shoes to fill!) but then it seemed to just stop. Well I'm glad he's still present even if not live on the air.
Have a great day everyone!
Hmmm, Penguins standing at attention, one is even hiding its head in fright. It looks like a mighty intimidating person was behind the camera. Did Captain Billy take this picture? So that is where you are. You are doing a world tour with Captain Billy and his crew. Well, I hope Captain Billy does not have you swabbing the deck. I am sure that traveling with a pirate is an exciting adventure but please be careful. Pirates are a bit sensitive and they seem to enjoy watching people walk off of a thin plank. Or is that story just a ploy to give pirates a bad name?
Good morning Mike & all,
I was also wondering why you wouldn't fill in for Dale in his absence? Maybe you could get various guests like Dale & Jim Ed used to on the morning show. But they stopped doing that for about a year and I always wondered why.....
I'm still enjoying the program but it's hard not to be able to check what's playing now.
Will Sat nights show be a new one?
For anyone who hasn't yet I highly recommend checking out the show or the archive of last weeks show. I re-listened to it yesterday afternoon and as a Sat night radio listener Dales show is fast becoming our favorite of the 3!! Sorry Garrison & Nick. Keep up the good work Dale & Mike!
I look forward to Sat nights...but if we must miss the show it's great to have the link to listen later!
Have a good day.....Kate
well, seein' as how i'm stuck at home in bed, with a cold or something, and only my cat to cheer me, i'm really missing dale! i'm agreein' about mike...come on, be on the radio more!
ha, i bet dale is actually, like, in iowa visiting family, and wearing a baseball cap, and riding in the back seat of a sedan---
yep, i'm grumpy! glad all you RH'ers are on the blog to talk about penguins and krill...takes my mind off being sick. thx.
jeez, this show has pulled me out of a gray midwinter morning gloominess. Thanks, Dale! have a great vacation.
aw shucks, you guys...
Yes, Kate, the Saturday night show on MPR News is "fresh" and it's a good'n too. Neal and Leandra will be our guests and we'll feature music from lots of other musical husband-wife duos.
Plus, there's a Spike Jones song in there that's guaranteed to crack you up.
And let's all give Kay H. a big "GET WELL" cheer!
thanks, mike, i feel better already---i'll have to turn off rh now...so i can nap...you all rock on...and keep things rollin'...

The sea ice is about to break up and if the inconvenient ice berg moves out of the harbor mouth, the resupply ship should show up sometime in the coming weeks.
