I live in a rural area which has many activities I consider Family Traditions the best is the County Fair.

It is over 125 years old. It is one of the largest in the state. Still alive and drawing people.

We entered 4 pieces of art and won places on 2. Not bad!

There is Demo Derby's, Tracter pulls, Beer Gardens, Bingo, Rides, & lots of food.

The Fair is Free too!

Our favorite summer cultural event is DRAGON FESTIVAL at Lake Phalen in St Paul. It is always the weekend after the 4th of July. Dragon Boat races, Pan-Asian dance, martial arts demonstrations, food, friends, family, FUN! We plan our entire summer around this event. Come and check out this fun FREE event next year. Information can be found at www.dragonfestival.org.

My husband and I avicly followed the tale of Lily, the mama bear, and her cub, Hope, during the past winter via the North American Bear Center's den-based webcam. We took our summer vacation to Ely to participate in the "Lilypad Picnic"--organized entirely using on-line resources that linked individuals around the globe who shared an intense dedication to the mission of the NABC's mission: educating humans about how to live cooperatively and productively with black bears.

My favorite summer cultural event???--what I hope is an annual Lilypad Picnic on the edge of the Boundary Waters with like-minded, bear-accepting humans!

Love the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
The food, entertainment, and the Cosplay!

Kinda Like the State Fair, but with a theme and less smelly farm animals. (Which I never quite understood... )

Without a doubt for me it is the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. I love the colors and the happy people. What a fun time!

Farmer's Markets! They are an important and vital part of our culture that needs to be supported. Every winter, I dream of when I can float down the isles and past the stands in pure bliss, surrounded by the colors, smells, and literal fruits of the efforts towards sustainability.

My favorite event during the summer is hard to pinpoint because there are so many! The Uptown Art fair is my top vote because of the popularity and it is the largest art fair in the country! I really like the Lake Harriet concerts also and anything that is free!

Sommerfest by Minnesota Orchestra. I was present at a beautiful performance of Tschaikovsky's Violin Concerto and Mahler's 4th Symphony. What beautiful music. Fun ourdoors in Peavey plaza also. This year I have returned to school so got the generous student discount for this beautiful concert.

I love the free outdoor concerts in the Minneapolis parks. Our family favorites are the Honeysuckle Hot Club and Dean Harrington Trio concerts at Lake Harriet. Relaxing with live gypsy jazz on a beautiful Minnesota evening is always the highlight of my summer. Today I'm waiting for quitting time because we're headed to Lake Harriet to hear Gypsy Mania Hot Club tonight!

Powerhorn Park Art Fair! Artists from our region & all over the U.S. create exciting beautiful art & fine craft, offering it to our community. Our studio spends weeks preparing for this show, anticipating visits w/ supporting patrons we haven't seen since last summer! The festival grounds, around Powderhorn Lake, are beautiful!

I love bicycling and just completed the "Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa" (RAGBRAI) last week for the first time. To ride with 10,000 bicyclists and visit small - town Iowa was an experience of a lifetime. Yet, it is an event that can be repeated year after year! Yeah RAGBRAI.

Renaissance Festival! I go in costume.

I'm a history nut. A mediavelist nut. And a fantasy nut. When I go there I'm surrounded by people who have the same obsessions. There are few places I feel more at home than the grounds of RenFest.
