Almost 80 years after Congress declared it our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner" remains a controversial choice. Today's Question: What song would you like to see as our national anthem?

YEAH THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND! But then again yeah, they would say it's un-AMERICAN, why should america be proud of having the same, everyone being equal, we all love those stuck up snobbs who think they're better then us working class. My vote is for woody, a TRUE American!
I offer this respectfully as a reflection on what has happened to us in the last two years. Temporarily instituting this song as our National Anthem might give us pause for some sober reflection on where we are and where we are going as a nation:

I want to add my vote to, "This Land is Your Land," but only if all of the verses are included, even the controversial verses. An alternative would be, "The Ghost of Tom Joad," by Bruce Springstein.
I think we should keep the one we have. It has a special meaning for our country and I believe it would seem almost "sac-religious"
to destroy this incredible tribute to the birth of our country including the pain involved.
At two separate phases of my life each of two songs pretty much served me and my friends as 'our' natioanal anthem.
The first was Ray Charles' "What'd I Say;" and the second was Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee (by Chris Chistopherson).
If push came to shove, I'd readily settle for either now being made official.
Lets keep the one we have.
I have always loved the fact that our anthm ends with a question mark.
I think we should have a national anthem writing contest.
I'm with Pete. This Land Is Your Land. All the verses.
"America the Beautiful" certainly speaks to our ideals better than a poem remembering a single (though important) battle.
Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" wouldn't work. Its implication is that we should all share in the bounty of the land, instead of each person hoarding as much as they can for themselves, which makes it un-American.
Yes, "America the Beautiful", "This Land Is Your Land", or the kid in me might like "Let There Be Peace On Earth"

The Stars and Stripes Forever should be the National Anthem. The current one, which glorifies war, wasn't adopted until the early part of the last century, I believe....prior to that the country had no official national anthem. It's time for a change that's for sure.
I recommend "This Land Is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie,although I feel that ALL the stanzas should be included ,although the mention of relief ('welfare)offices and a defiantly self-reliant pursuit of freedom might hit a little too close to home for some!!
America the Beautiful: This song portrays the diverse terrain and vast beauty of the land. It is also so much easier to sing!!!
Ditto to America the Beautiful. Either that, or Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory.
America's national anthem should be.....the Looney Tunes theme song. Tell me that wouldn't put a huge smile on everyone's faces.
