At this time of year it can be hard to find vacancies along the North Shore or the St. Croix River Valley. But there are plenty of other spots to enjoy the weather and color of the season. What's your favorite place in Minnesota to enjoy the fall?
The best way to enjoy fall is to snuggle under blankets in the sun-room. All the pretty, none of the cold. -@k_schoe
Walking through the Bird Sanctuary near Lake Harriet. -@loriwilson23
I say canoeing the StCroix. -@jonbenson
Duluth is the place to be! Plenty to do, beautiful landscape/ views, and great beer. Couldn't ask for more, Autumn or otherwise! -@_ants_
My favorite place to enjoy the fall colors is my backyard. -Lynne, Prior Lake, MN
St. Croix River valley by boat. -Bill, Minneapolis, MN
Anywhere I can enjoy the bounty of the harvest -- the St. Paul Farmers' Market, apple orchards, my garden.
Definitely Kaposia Park in South Saint Paul. There is a wonderful walking path through the eastern edge of the park that runs from Highway 52 to the Mississippi River. It is a great, cheap way to immerse yourself in the fall colors.
Maplewood State Park is near where I grew up and I have very fond memories of the beautiful colors during the fall. Here is a link some great picture I found online (I did not take these...)

I like the woods and lake between grand marais and duluth and the bluffs around winona
As I now live far away from Minnesota, remaining connected through family and by webstreamed MPR, my favorite place for Minnesota fall colors is in my mind where they are perfect! Vibrant, crunchy, a little bit quiet, richly scented in the warm afternoon sun.
Up north between Duluth and Grand Marais or down south in and around Winona.
I have several favorite places. In order of when the color comes out:
1) Hikiing the Superior Trail between Tofte and Lutsen.
2) Canoing down the St Croix from Taylor's Falls to where-ever.
3). Mountain Biking the Mississippi River valley bluffs near Winona.
Enjoy!
At Great River Bluffs State Park outside Winona. Excellent hiking and birding.
The street I live on in Duluth is lined on each side with maples and oaks and such. We are at the top of a hill when you look to the east you see lots of color.
Without question, Maplewood State Park. As its name suggests, the maple trees make for a glorious palate of color.
My back yard on Casey Park in North Saint Paul is completely enclosed on three sides by majestic trees. All we need do is sit on our porch or work in the garden and wait for fall to come to us. As luck would have it, we will be traveling to Duluth this weekend to visit relatives so we will get it twice.
Pride goth before the fall and we all know what comes after the fall; so, I like to enjoy it from the perspective of someone with a winter home in Florida.
Watching a Saint John's football game in Collegeville.
There's nothing better than a great game on a crisp fall day, smelling the grills fired up, enjoying the friendliness of ten thousand fellow spectators, and leaving all worries back in the Twin Cities for the day.
There's a reason why Sports Illustrated ranked it one of the top ten places to watch college fooball. I'll be there Saturday!
There is no place better to spend the fall than in Duluth, MN. Spending an afternoon taking your light jacket for a walk from Leif Erickson Park, down the boardwalk, to the pier, and then warming up with some coffee or hot tea at the Amazing Grace Cafe in Duluth's Canal Park district, and then wandering around the town, and up the shore -there's really nothing quite like it.
The fire tower in Itasca State Park. The 360 degree view of fall colors is worth the climb; even for an acrophobe like me.
Lanesboro, Minn. with the Root River curving along under the tree-lined bluffs. (Best view is from a kayak!) Fog in the morning, then lifting to a crisp blue sky.
Tofte, and anywhere on the North Shore. The drive up along 35 around mid-October is simply breathtaking.
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
The North Shore, Hwy 61.
Nerstrand/Big Woods State Park for leaf crunching.
Oliver Kelly Farm for fall harvesting. Threshing is fun!
Wherever I am at the moment. The beauty of Minnesota is that the seasons have a way of finding you wherever you are.
