Another school year is about to start, an event that transforms the lives and daily routines of students, teachers, district employees and parents. What are you looking forward to - or dreading -- this school year?

Nothing at all! I am finally done with college -- woo hoo :)
Our oldest starts Kindergarten on 9/10. I recently went through the school calendar to mark down days when she's not having class so I know what I'll owe daycare for the 'off' days...
Out of 197 weekdays that make up her school year, 30 are no-school days for her... OR 22 full weeks+16 partial wks+2 off weeks...OR about 400 hours of instruction over 9.5 calendar months (this is 2.5 hour, 'half-day' Kindergarten)
16 partial weeks??
She has been in full-day preschool up until now, and starting in 2 weeks her so-called routine will change a lot. I wish I could just keep her at the Center for another year and start first grade straight up.
I'm excited to learn new advanced topics like Calc and chemistry, but I hate dealing with other high school kids. They deserve almost all the sterotypes thrown upon them.
Looking forward to starting my first year as a high school English teacher in my small rural school. Dreading? Well... all of the planning.
More student loans piling up
Kathy, I do not have children and will never have them, this is by choice. I'm glad that there are parents like you out there that enjoy their children. However, I still enjoy when children go back to school and look forward to the silence. We really need more parents like you who enjoy and thrive with their children. But please do not judge me by my comments.
I homeschooled my children, and enjoyed their company year round. Quietness is fine -- but should never be the end goal of labor and delivery. What a sadness that folks celebrate handing their kids over to someone else. I'd do all those years with kids home over again and over again and over again...! Could we start thinking about all of this differently??
After 32 years away, I'm looking forward to taking a course at the U of M. Senior citizens (age 62 and up) can take classes for only $10 per credit, if space is available!
I'm looking forward to the kids being back in school! I always take the day after Labor Day off because it's the first time in 3 months that the neighborhood is quiet during the day! I'm looking forward to a day of reading on the deck with no screaming kids.
I'm starting highschool this year, so I'm really exited about meeting new people and expanding my social circle, but i'm also deading being a freshman because my school has a reputation of being generaly awful to them, what should I do to defect their behavior?
